Jay Rechsteiner who also works under the name Tobleroni was born in Switzerland in 1971 where he spent his childhood. In his early 20s Jay immigrated to Japan with his wife where he devoted his time to the study of art. About six years later he got divorced and set out on a journey through Asia back to Switzerland where he settled down for two years working as an artist while taking art courses at the College of Art and Design in Basel. Jay came to London in 2004. He exhibited internationally in Japan, France, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal and in the UK.

Jay Rechsteiner is first and foremost a painter who is constantly questioning art, the art world, political & social events. There is a deep philosophical aspect in his work that manifests itself in a wide range of different paintings of various styles from crude, urban collage-style images to more sophisticated techniques based on computer-based graphic design. Under the name Tobleroni Jay works together with Victor 'Torpedo' Silveira AKA Sardine using the label The Monkey in the Box Company. This collaborative   art project produces a vast amount of paintings of a very refreshing style challenging the contemporary sense of art and beauty.

Jay Rechsteiner works also in other media such as video, video performance, installation and conceptual projects mainly exploring and defining what art actually is.
