about Jay Rechsteiner      >>back

Born into a hippie family Jay Rechsteiner was confronted from a very young age with drugs, art, philosophy and politics which has influenced his career as an artist who has exhibited in Japan, Switzerland, France, Italy and the UK. After graduating from business school he tried to launch a career in business as a reaction towards his upbringing but soon realized the gap and emptyness between his decision and what he really was and wanted to do: being a painter. At the age of 23 he got married to a wonderful Japanese girl (whose full name cannot be revealed) and moved to Fukuoka, Japan where he studied painting in a private studio. He soon started to exhibit in various locations and became well known among the young Japanese artists in the city of Fukuoka. Unfortunately his bohemian life style led to the divorce after five years. He left Japan and travelled through Asia which had a major influence on his thinking and work. Back in Switzerland he set up a studio where he worked for two years until he decided to move to London to join his best friend Michael Harland. He soon established The Washroom Project and then in September 2005 met Korean artist Eunji Kim with whom he felt a very close connection and decided to collaborate under the label zeiTraum.
