The Concept of Art back
The Concept of Art is the Concept of Value. Anything that goes through The Artistic Process (Artistic Value) transforms into art. The Artistic Value comprises very important sub values such as for example:
The Conceptual Value (the idea and the concept)
The Social Value (involving others)
The Labour Value (actual work)
The Financial Value (price, selling)
Therefore the following equation: object + Artistic Process = art
The more values an object (thing or idea) has the higher is its Artistic Value. The conclusion is now that art has no quality. The only thing you can question is the quality of the process. That means how creative it is or how it is being presented etc. I believe that a work of art is never complete because you can constantly add values. For example if you use a piece of art for political propaganda purpose you add political Value to it. The question remains if the person executing the process needs to be an artist or. The process can turn the person into an artist or only an artist can execute the Artistic Process. I tend for the first one and think that anyone can be an artist.
Check out my project [zeiTraum] that is kind of an experimental playground for me to test and prove my theory of art. Click Here.
Most conceptual artists focus on the concept but I think conceptual art becomes interesting when the presentation of it is also an important part of it (adding lots of value to it). The project [zeiTraum] executes this philosophy very well although my partner Eunji Kim and I always end up in fierce and angry discussions about the conceptual part including my terrible and evil character. Well, this as well is very important and can be described as an off-stage performance.
This is a very simple explanation for everyone. Cool? Cheers.
